Youth roundup: DFS places second at Spring Fever Invitational

The Dacula Family Sports gymnastics team placed second with a score of 110.350 at the Spring Fever Invitational in Woodstock on April 9.

Lyndzi Jones finished first on the bars, second on the vault, beam and floor and first in the all-around with a score of 34.300 in the 6-and-under age group.

Emily Hamil was first on the vault, beam and floor and fourth on the bars and second in the all-around with a score of 33.975. Payton Ashby placed second on the bars and third in the vault, beam and floor and third in the all-around with a score of 32.250. Lexi Hamilton placed third on the bars and fourth in the vault, beam and floor and finished with an all-around score of 31.525

In the 8 year old group, Kayla Baptiste placed fourth on the bars and floor and had a score of 35.175 in the all around. Kylie Elder finished second in the floor and seventh in all-around with a score of 34.425.

Danielle Manning was first on the beam, floor and all-around with a score of 36.700 in the nine year old group.

Molly Crowe was first on the vault and bars in the 10-and-up age group and was second on the beam and all-around (36.850) and third in the floor. McKenzie Murdock was third on the beam and fourth on the bars, floor and all-around with a score of 35.275. Michelle Hawkins placed second on the bars, floor and fourth in the vault. She placed fifth in the all-around with a score of 35.125.

Gymnastics

GGA places third at meet

The Georgia Gymnastics Academy had a third-place finish at the Lady Bug meet in Lawrenceville on April 9.

Chandler Haligas, 8, was second on the bars, third on the beam and fourth on the floor and had a third place finish in the all-around with a score of 35.500. Logan Nugent, 8, was third in the bars, sixth on the floor and a had a score of 34.925 to finish fifth in the all-around. Sydney Burgess, 8, was fifth in the bars.

Anita Button, 9, was fourth on the bars, and finished third in the all-around with a score of 34.525. Ellie Sheppard, 9, was sixth in the vault, beam, all-around (33.425). Jill Blackmon, 9, was second in the bars and all-around (36.100), third in the floor and fourth in the vault and beam.

Julia Jefferson, 10, placed second in the beam and all-around (36.775) and third in the vault, bars, and floor. Caitlin Palanza, 11, finished first in the vault and third in the bars, beam, floor and all-around (35.475). Kara Knapik, 12, was first in the vault and bars, third in the beam and all-around (35.600) and fourth in the floor. Nikki Covalschi, 14, placed second in the bars and all-around (33.600) and third in the bars, beam, and floor.

Byram takes first all-around in state meet

Chelsea Byram, 13, a prep-optional gymnast at Georgia Gymnastics Academy in Suwanee, took first place all-around in the state gymnastics meet in Roswell.

Byram placed first on the beam and floor and second on bars for an all-around score of 36.9.

Hayden Prince, 11, placed first on the floor and eighth all-around. Olivia Vercelote, 14, finished third on beam and fourth all-around. Natalie Blackmon, 14, placed fifth all-around; Nicole Hermansen, 12, placed second on floor and seventh all-around; Lindsay Heiss, 14, was seventh all-around; Hannah Hairston, 11, placed 10th all-around.

In the Level 4 AAU state meet, Nikki Covalschi, 14, was third all-around, finishing first on floor, second on beam and third on vault. Jill Blackmon, 10, placed fifth all-around. Sydney Burgess, 8, and Sara Jones, 10, placed sixth all-around, while Chandler Haligas, 8, placed seventh, and Julia Jefferson, 10, placed eighth.

Softball

Worth Black wins Diamond Hop

Team Worth Black 12U softball team claimed first place at the National Softball Association of Atlanta North Georgia Rockets Diamond Hop held on April 14 and 15 in Cumming.

Team members are: Sarah Armstrong, Ashli Haynes, Brandi Jones, Cheyenne Kelley, Sierra Lawrence, Chelsea Littlejohn, Sarah McFall, Brittany Mitchell, Caroline Rogers and Megan Wojick. Coaches are Tim Mitchell, Scott Rogers and Buddy Parham.

Mad Dogs win Bring It On tournament

The 12U North Gwinnett Mad Dogs fast pitch softball team went undefeated at the ASA East Cobb Bring It On softball tournament held April 28-30 in Woodstock.

The Mad Dogs outscored their opponents by a combined score of 47-7 and added four wins to bring their season record to 31-4 en route to the championship.

Team members are: Kallie Case, Melissa Dickie, Karly Fullem, Chandler Griffin, Lauren Kaczynski, Caitlin McClure, Mary Moore, Kodi Ricketson, Lauren Shaw and Chelsie Thomas."

Basketball

Lady Eagles headed to national basketball tourney

The Gwinnett County area will be represented in the 14U AAU Division I National basketball tournament this summer by the Georgia Lady Eagles.

The Lady Eagles earned a runner-up finish in the Macon Super Regional this past weekend to qualify for the tournament to be held in Lafayette, La.

The only team to defeat them was the eventual champion Orlando Comets.

Team members are: Rachael Parr , Stephanie Fincher, Taylor Johnson, Bailey Holmes, Katie Lewis, Joy McCuen, McKenzie Reeves, Hannah Parets, Jordan Poole, Mindy Montgomery and Brittany McDonald. The team is coached by Jury Sollenberger
