AUBURN - A 20-year-old Conyers resident was arrested and charged with child molestation after he allegedly had sex with a 14-year-old on three different occasions.
Johnathan Alan Newkirk had reportedly been in a relationship with the girl for about a week, Auburn police Detective Cpl. Mike Fugett said. The girl told police that she was pregnant, but they were not able to confirm whether she was. On March 18, police responded to a burglary charge on Oakbridge Drive and found the pair in a house that had caught fire earlier in the month. The girl alleged that she and Newkirk had sex in Conyers, Auburn and elsewhere in Gwinnett County during the week they were together. They were reportedly hiding the relationship from their parents because they were an interracial couple. Newkirk was charged with two counts of burglary, three counts of statutory rape, three counts of child molestation, one count of contributing to the delinquency of a minor and one count of possession of marijuana less than an ounce. He remains in custody. A juvenile complaint was written against the girl for burglary, Fugett said, and she was turned over to her mother.More like this story
