Upscale subdivision approved in Hoschton

WINDER - A new upscale community will be built on Victron Drive in Hoschton.

The 38-acre, 26-lot subdivision will have homes selling in the mid-$300,000 range, Joel Walters told Barrow County commissioners Tuesday. The rezoning request passed unanimously.

A mixed-use retail center was also approved, at the corner of Bethel Church Road and Ga. Highway 81, with the stipulation that Bethel Church Road would be realigned.

District 5 Commissioner David Dyer abstained from voting because of confusion surrounding the realignment.

Commissioners also approved $18,500 in matching funds for a grant to buy land to expand the county airport. The Federal Aviation Administration is giving $350,000.

The commission added $97,026 out of county reserves to the budget for retirement contributions, and $500 for a pauper
