1919-2006 Melna Augusta Smith died early Sunday, March 26, 2006. She was born Oct. 24, 1919 in Demopolis, AL, and grew up in Nashville, Tennessee. She was a graduate of Hume Fogg High School, and attended Vanderbilt University where she was a member of Alpha Omicron Pi Sorority. Melna had a passion for genealogy, and was a member of the Jamestown Society, Daughters of the American Revolution, the First Families of Tennessee, the National Society of Colonial Dames XVII Century, United States Daughters of 1812, Continental Society Daughters of Indian Wars, National Society Daughters of Colonial Wars, and The National Society Magna Carta Dames. She was a longtime resident of Lawrenceville, GA where she was a founding member of Lawrenceville's first Garden Club. She was an avid bridge player, and learned to love the game of golf. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Lawrenceville, GA and was a member of the choir for 30 years. She is survived by her sister & brother-in-law, Margaret & Henry Creel; children, and their spouses, Melna and Jim Henderson, Riley Powell Smith, Jr. and his wife, Dr. Kari Addante, Margaret and David Tyrrell; grandchildren, Beth Larlee, Leah Dryden, Melissa Solberg, Melna Bourland, and Victoria Lewis; great grandchildren, Maggie Dryden, Sarah Dryden, and Hoyt Solberg. She believed the best things in life are the people we love, the places we've been, and the memories we've made along the way. She will be missed by all. Services will be on Thursday at 2PM at the First United Methodist Church in Lawrenceville. Contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church Scholarship fund. Family will receive visitors 2-4 and 6-8 on Wednesday at Wages and Sons Funeral Home, 1031 Lawrenceville Hwy., Lawrenceville, 770-277-4550.
