Department of Family, Children Services seeking donations

The Gwinnett Department of Family and Children Services is collecting Easter baskets for local children and teens. The group will collect baskets from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. April 3-5.

They're asking for baskets to be filled with individually wrapped candy and small toys, gifts, new stuffed animals or teen-oriented items and wrapped in cellophane bags or wrap. They're pushing for donations of teen baskets, especially those for boys, which are often donated less frequently than the number needed.

Baskets should be delivered to the Georgia Army National Guard Armory, 261 E. Crogan St. in Lawrenceville. For more information, call Deborah Barinowski at 678-518-5758.

2-Day Walk kick-off attracts 200

More than 200 people attended the 2-Day Walk for Breast Cancer's registration kick-off and training walk on March 18 in Buckhead. Attendees participated in a 5K training walk through Buckhead.

There's still plenty of time to register and train before the September walk, said founder Randi Passoff. The annual 2-Day Walk for Breast Cancer is scheduled for Sept. 16-17, and raises money for breast cancer awareness, research and support organizations that help local minorities, including Hispanics, Asians, blacks and low-income women. Since its inception, the walk has raised more than $1.6 million and awarded 45 gifts and grants. For more information, visit www.2daywalk.org or call 404-531-4111.
