Man jailed in double shooting

LAWRENCEVILLE - A 23-year-old man has been jailed for allegedly shooting two men at a billiards hall in Lawrenceville over the weekend.

Authorities said Jesus Lopez-Zavala opened fire on the victims at 3:50 a.m. following an altercation at Que Pasa Billiards at 2369 Lawrenceville Highway.

Enrique Compos, 24, of Norcross, was hospitalized with a nonlife-threatening injury. Another man, who police have not yet identified, was seriously injured. He was taken to Gwinnett Medical Center in critical but stable condition, said Cpl. Darren Moloney, spokesman for the Gwinnett County Police Department.

Police did not disclose the motive for the shooting.

However, Moloney said "the preliminary investigation indicates that the two victims were not shooting (at the suspect) and were not shooting at each other."

Lopez-Zavala is charged with two counts of aggravated assault. He had a first appearance hearing Monday night. A probable cause hearing had not been scheduled as of press time.
