Maintenance project to begin on Ga. 316

LAWRENCEVILLE - As if the work on the interstate wasn't enough, transportation crews will also be out this week to start a maintenance project on Ga. Highway 316.

"We will not close any lanes on the project during the day. Any work that requires lane closures can only occur from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.," Georgia Department of Transportation District Engineer Russell McMurry said.

The project includes replacing the outside or right lane of Ga. 316 from Ga. Highway 20 to U.S. Highway 29 and other sections of concrete along the stretch.

If weather allows, the work will begin Monday at 9 p.m. on the inside eastbound lane of Ga. 316.

The construction, which will cost more than $6.7 million, will continue through the summer.

"This week the work will be prep work, marking the specific sections of concrete to be replaced. We are planning to work Monday and Tuesday nights eastbound and Thursday and Friday nights in the westbound lanes. We expect to work in 2-mile-long sections," McMurry said. "Lanes will be narrowed as we work, and traffic will drive partially on the shoulders at times through construction."

Also Monday, crews are scheduled to close lanes for the project to reconstruct the Interstate 85/Ga. 316 interchange.

If weather permits, the work will begin at 8:30 p.m. Contractors will close the left lane on I-85 northbound at Pleasant Hill Road. Crews will install the last section of temporary barrier wall around the center support column of the Old Norcross Road bridge. The left or inside northbound lane will be closed from Pleasant Hill to Ga. 316 until 8 a.m.
