Prep roundup: North girls shut out No. 3 South Forsyth for 2-0 victory

SUWANEE - North Gwinnett continued to prove it is amongst the state's elite girls soccer teams as it shut out No. 3-ranked South Forsyth 2-0 on Friday.

North's defense anchored by Katie Blackmon, Ellie McGinley, Deidre Radloff, Jordyn Wilson and Angela Franklin proved to be the decisive factor against a strong South Forsyth offense.

Kaitlin Baker and Kelly Penston each scored one goal apiece while Paige Banham had five saves in goal for the Bulldogs (6-1, 2-0).


Mill Creek 1, Decatur 1

DECATUR - Laura Smith scored a goal and Brooke Hoppmeyer had the assist as Mill Creek tied Decatur 1-1 on Friday.

Jennifer Vincent had three outstanding diving saves in the last three minutes of the game to salvage the tie for the Hawks.

Parkview 2, Vestavia Hills 0

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Marah Falle led Parkview (7-1) past Vestavia Hills, which is ranked No. 1 in 5-AAAAA in Alabama, 2-0 on Friday.

Falle had one goal and an assist while Megan Geiger added another goal for the Panthers.

Providence 2, Greenbrier 2

CHARLESTON, S.C. - Despite strong efforts from both Mary Katherine Franklin and Kassi Flowers, Providence (5-1-1) tied its first game of the year to Greenbrier 2-2 on Friday.

Franklin and Flowers both had a goal apiece for the Stars.


Decatur 6, Mill Creek 2

DECATUR - Decatur scored a goal in the first 25 seconds of the game and never looked back as it rolled past Mill Creek 6-2 on Friday.

Bryan Gerster and Jorge Pradilla each had one goal apiece for the Hawks.

Peachtree Ridge 2, Northview 0

ALPHARETTA - Zach Denson and Steven Quintero each scored a goal as they led Peachtree Ridge past Northview 2-0 on Friday.

SUWANEE - Korey Daigle scored a goal late in the second half to tie the game at 1-1, but North Gwinnett fell short 7-6 on penalty kicks as it lost to South Forsyth 2-1 on Friday.

Centennial 3, Collins Hill 2

ROSWELL - Rob Manning and Greg Hoover each scored one goal as Collins Hill fell short to Centennial 3-2 on Friday.


North 9, M.L. King 3

SUWANEE - North Gwinnett (5-0) remained undefeated and had everyone in the lineup got a hit as it rolled past M.L. King 9-3 on Friday.

Lars Mitchell got the victory, pitching a complete game, allowing six hits with six strikeouts.

Ellis Logeman and Tate Blenke each had a homer while Justin Rahm, Ty Goodbar and Mike Peters all had two hits apiece for the Bulldogs.

Dacula 7, Shaw 5

DACULA - Jonathan McBrayer pitched 52⁄3 innings, allowed no runs and had five strikeouts to lead Dacula past Shaw 7-5 on Friday.

Shannon Wilkerson was 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBIs while Bryant Jones went 2-for-3 with a homer for the Falcons.

Norcross 8, Shiloh 7

NORCROSS - Leonard Foster had the game-winning hit, scoring Peter Poole in the bottom of the ninth to give Norcross an 8-7 win over Shiloh.

Richard Pirkle was 4-for-4 with a homer and Johnny Curry went 3-for-5 with two RBIs for the Blue Devils.

Matt Summah was the winning pitcher striking out four batters in only 32⁄3 innings of work.

Sequoyah 8, Shiloh 2

SNELLVILLE - Drew Freeman was strong on the mound, allowing seven hits and striking out three batters, but Shiloh lost 8-2 to Sequoyah on Friday.

Collins Hill 3, Heritage 0

SUWANEE - Justin Earls and Allan Kolleda combined to allow only one hit and strike out seven batters to lead Collins Hill past Heritage 3-0 on Friday.

Earls pitched five innings, did not allow a hit and had four strikeouts while Kolleda pitched two innings, surrendered only one hit and had three strikeouts.

Michael Young was 2-for-2 with a run scored and Justice French went 2-for-3 for the Eagles (3-1).

South Forsyth 6, South 5

CUMMING -Despite a valiant comeback, South Gwinnett fell short as it lost to South Forsyth 6-5 on Friday.

Lance Whatley was 3-for-4 with two RBIs for the Comets.

GAC 3, St. Pius 1

NORCROSS - Taylor Wood pitched six strong innings and recorded seven strikeouts as he picked up the win to lead Greater Atlanta Christian past St. Pius 3-1 on Friday.

Patrick Savage was 3-for-3 with a triple and Colton Chapple was 1-for-2 with a double and an RBI for the Spartans.

Kennesaw Mountain 3, Grayson 1

LOGANVILLE - Matt Hill took a no-hitter into the sixth inning but that proved not to be enough as Kennesaw Mountain slipped past Grayson 3-1 on Friday.

Hill pitched six innings, allowing four hits and two runs. He struck out four batters for the Rams.

Dunwoody 4, Peachtree Ridge 1

DUNWOODY - Peachtree Ridge committed seven errors and Dunwoody took advantage as it defeated Peachtree Ridge 4-1 on


Killian Hill Christian 17, Community Christian 0

STOCKBRIDGE - Aaron Brooks pitched a no-hitter as Killian Hill Christian rolled past Community Christian 17-0 in five innings on Friday.

Brooks pitched five innings and struck out nine batters.

Chris Niarchos had a dominant performance from the plate, going 5-for-5 with a home run, two doubles and three RBIs for Killian Hill.


Killian Hill Christian 7, Greater Gwinnett 1

LILBURN - Anna Niarchos hit a huge home run to push Killian Hill Christian past Greater Gwinnett 7-1 on Friday.

Niarchos was 4-for-4 with three RBIs. Jamie Cyrus also had a strong night from the plate with two hits. Rachel Niarchos was solid on the mound for Killian Hill, allowing only three hits and one run.
