Grayson boys knock off Parkview 2-1 in double overtime

GRAYSON - Eighth-ranked Grayson knocked off defending state champion Parkview 2-1 Friday night on a goal by Sean Diffley with 3:30 left in the second overtime in a Region 8-AAAAA boys soccer match on Friday.

Matt Holliday scored the first goal for Grayson (7-0, 1-0) on an assist from Michael O'Toole while Eric Ati saved eight shots at keeper. Parkview's (2-4, 0-1) goal came in the first half from Blake Brettschneider.


Brookwood 4, Shiloh 1

SNELLVILLE - Top-ranked Brookwood received single goals from Yakov Rubinchik, Stephen George, Tommy Melvin and Sean Johnson as the Broncos beat No. 9 Shiloh 4-1 on Friday.

Dave Maity, Nathan McKeever and Wes Manyak led the defense for Brookwood (4-0, 1-0) while Andrew Adams and Jamie Deal combined their efforts at keeper.

Dunwoody 3, South 2

SNELLVILLE - South Gwinnett dropped to 2-3 on the year Friday night with a 3-2 loss to Dunwoody.

Scoring one goal each for South were Michael Grigalunas and Paul Barry.

Providence 4, Decatur 0

DECATUR - Stephen Murray scored four goals Friday night as Providence shut out Decatur 4-0.

Jonathan Hull provided two assists while Luke Gettmann added one for the Stars (3-2). Keeper Travis Case logged the shutout.

GAC 4, Gainesville 0

NORCROSS - Greater Atlanta Christian improved to 3-4 on the season with a 4-0 shutout over Gainesville Friday night.

Matt Wolfe logged the shutout at keeper while Sam Arthur, Chris Thomas, Zack Johnson and Nick Ramon each scored once.

Flowery Branch 4, Buford 1

FLOWERY BRANCH - Buford dropped to 7-2 on the season with a 4-1 loss at Flowery Branch on Friday.

SNELLVILLE - Lindsay Mushett, Cortney Charlesworth and Michelle Osborn led Brookwood defensively as the Broncos topped Shiloh 1-0 Friday night in Region 8-AAAAA action.

Kelli McLane scored the lone goal for Brookwood (4-0, 1-0) while keeper Jessica English saved one shot in the shutout.

Central 6, Meadowcreek 0

NORCROSS - Tiawo Adeshigbin scored two goals and Omotayo Adeshigbin added one in leading Central Gwinnett to a 6-0 blanking of Meadowcreek.

Sam Bily, Megan Leonard and Jessica Engheben each scored once while keeper Jessica Bailey preserved the shutout with two saves for Central (3-3, 1-0).

Collins Hill 5, North Forsyth 0

SUWANEE - The Collins Hill defense allowed just one shot on goal Friday night as the Eagles blanked North Forsyth 5-0.

Sara Dashiell scored two goals while Tricia Smith, Jessica Young and Alicia Plotky each scored one. Justine Clay added two assists for Collins Hill (2-4) while Kaitlyn Induni and Melissa Whalen split time at keeper for the shutout.

South 4, Dunwoody 0

SNELLVILLE - Nikki Steamaris scored two goals and Liz Keller and Emily Quintero each added one as South Gwinnett (3-2) blanked Dunwoody 4-0 on Friday.

Erica Peterson saved one shot at keeper for shutout.

Duluth 4, Stockbridge 0

STOCKBRIDGE - Nicole Beattie scored three goals and Katie Schraudenbach added one as Duluth beat Stockbridge 4-0 on Friday.

Chesley Torrance logged the shutout at keeper for Duluth (3-1).

Providence 4, Decatur 2

DECATUR - Third-ranked Providence upended second-ranked Decatur Friday night by a 4-2 score.

Mary Katherine Franklin led the Stars (3-1) with two goals while Sarah Jordan and Maggie Ballenger each scored one.

Wesleyan 6, Grady 1

NORCROSS - Sarah Prehmus scored two goals and Katie O'Brien added two assists Friday night as Wesleyan eased past Grady 6-1.

Chloe Kelly, Paige Pickert and Mamie McIntosh each helped with a goal and an assist for the Wolves (5-1) while Alex Igleheart added a goal.


Dacula 16, Forsyth Central 4

DACULA - Shannon Wilkerson went 2-for-2 with a home run and five RBIs on Friday as Dacula throttled Forsyth Central 16-4.

D.J. Knudsen added two more homers and five RBIs for Dacula (2-0) while Bryan Jones drilled a two-run homer. Blair Frost and Jake Rowe each added two hits.

Jonathan McBryar pitched four innings for the win, allowing two runs (one earned) with two walks and four strikeouts.

Peachtree Ridge 11, Lithia Springs 9

SUWANEE - Lithia Springs scored six runs in the top of the first but Peachtree Ridge rebounded for an 11-9 win on Friday.

Blake Perry was 2-for-3 with four RBIs for the Lions (2-0) while Cale Rosario was 3-for-4 with an RBI and Randy Fender went 3-for-5. Dillon Waters picked up the win in relief.

Berkmar 6, Providence 2

LILBURN - Berkmar topped Providence 6-2 in six innings on Friday in the Patriots' season opener.

Berkmar starter Jacob Matheny (1-0) went three innings, allowing two runs on five hits with six strikeouts for the win while Andrew Braun and Brad Brown combined for three innings of scoreless relief. Joe Hendricks and Adam Webster each went 2-for-4 with a double for Berkmar (1-0).

Providence (0-2) received a solo homer from Michael Webb while starter Clayton Thompson went 22⁄3 innings, allowing two walks and two earned runs with five strikeouts.

Cartersville 6, Brookwood 5

CARTERSVILLE - Cartersville, ranked No. 1 in Class AAA, jumped to a 6-0 lead against Brookwood on Friday, then held off the Broncos for a 6-5 win.

Andy Reid started for Brookwood (0-1) and lasted 21⁄3 innings, allowing six runs (five earned) on five hits with four walks and four strikeouts.

Tim Lorek was 2-for-4 with two runs for Brookwood while Chase Hawkins added a double, and RBI and a run. Austin McCoy also went for 1-for-2 with two RBIs.

Lowndes 3, South 1

SNELLVILLE - Lowndes scored three runs in the first and held on for a 3-1 win over South Gwinnett on Friday.

South pitcher Neil Rollins went seven innings, allowing six hits and three runs with seven strikeouts. Jason Dodson was 1-for-2 with an RBI for South (1-1) while Brett Teschner doubled and scored and Lance Whatley went 1-for-3.

Shiloh 16, Osborne 4

MARIETTA - Mikey Mixon went 3-for-5 with two RBIs on Friday as Shiloh routed Osborne 16-4.

Drew Freeman also had three hits while Antonio Callaway, Josh Mitchem and Eddie Mathis each had two. Cody Simpson notched the win on the mound with three innings of work, allowing three earned runs on three hits. Richard Woods added three scoreless innings of relief with five strikeouts.

Walton 12, Collins Hill 10

MARIETTA - Walton took advantage of seven Collins Hill errors Friday night as the Raiders knocked off Collins Hill 12-10.

Starter Daniel Warzon pitched two innings with three strikeouts and two walks. Justin Earls (0-1) added four innings relief with three strikeouts and two walks with no earned runs, but still took the loss, allowing the Raiders to take the lead on unearned runs.

Nick Sperounis was 2-for-3 with two runs and an RBI for Collins Hill (0-1) while Ryan Hanson had a double and two RBIs. Justice French added a hit and an RBI while scoring two runs.

Mill Creek 8, Blessed Trinity 3

ROSWELL - Drew Fraser threw 51⁄3 innings Friday night, allowing five hits with three strikeouts as Mill Creek beat Blessed Trinity 8-3.

Karl Schaefer added 12⁄3 innings of hitless relief with three strikeouts for the Hawks (2-0). Jeff Bennett was 2-for-2 with two runs and an RBI while Jeremy Bolian added an RBI double.

Buford 6, Lakeview 2

FLOWERY BRANCH - Buford improved to 2-0 on Friday with a 6-2 win in six innings over Lakeview in the Flowery Branch tournament.

Billy Johnson (1-0) allowed one run in three innings while Matt Quick allowed one run in three innings of relief. Josh Higginbotham and Cory Allen each went 2-for-3 with an RBI while John Macolino added two doubles and two RBIs.

GAC 9, Eagles' Landing 5

NORCROSS - Greater Atlanta Christian starter Taylor Wood allowed just one hit over four innings with eight strikeouts as the Spartans (2-1) topped Eagles' Landing 9-5 on Friday. Wood also went 3-for-3 at the plate with three RBIs.

John Wood went 2-for-4 with an RBI while Patrick Savage doubled twice in four at-bats.

Our Lady of Mercy 11, Hebron 1

FAIRBURN - Hebron's season opened Friday night with an 11-1 loss at Our Lady of Mercy.

Starter Bobby Cole (0-1) pitched three solid innings for Hebron (0-1), allowing one earned run on one hit with four strikeouts. Josh Baldwin, Tim Gordon and Cole each collected one hit at the plate while Nick Dunn went 2-for-3.


Mill Creek tops Peachtree Ridge and Landmark

HOSCHTON - Mill Creek tallied 109 points on Friday as the Hawks beat Peachtree Ridge (54 points) and Landmark Christian (15 points).

Colin Conroy of Mill Creek won the 1,600-meter run at 4 minutes, 40.8 seconds and the 3,200 run at 10:24. Chris Douglas of Peachtree Ridge won the 100 at 11.2 seconds while taking the 200 run at 22.9 seconds.


Mill Creek edges Landmark and Peachtree Ridge

HOSCHTON - Lavonda Watson of Mill Creek won the high jump at 5 feet, 4 inches and the long jump with a distance of 31-4 on Friday as the Hawks beat Landmark Christian (52.5 points) and Peachtree Ridge (45 points).

Bethany Ullrich added wins in the 100-meter hurdles (16.33 seconds) and 300 hurdles (47.88) for Mill Creek.


Hebron 4, Towns Co. 1

DACULA - Sarah Hedrick, Kara McFarland and Shannan Finke all won in singles play of Friday in helping Hebron to a 4-1 win over Towns Co.

Kathleen Griffin and LeeAnna Ward also won at No. 2 doubles for Hebron (4-2).


Killian Hill 15, Old Suwanee 3

LILBURN - Olivia Peralta went 4-for-4 on Friday as Killian Hill (1-1) beat Old Suwanee 15-3.

Annie Niarchos added three hits with a homer while Allison Trine also homered. Rachel Niarchos struck out six with two hits allowed in five innings for the win.
