STATHAM - A girl reported missing Saturday has returned home safely.
Gabrielle Rainwater, 16, reportedly went to Macon with her 15-year-old friend Deanna Malpass on Saturday, intending to return that evening. She was reported missing after she called her mother Sunday and said she was receiving strange looks from an old man and was uncomfortable.
Rainwater reportedly told her mother that she was on her way home, but she did not return.
Sgt. Thomas Hinson, spokesman for the Statham Police Department, said Rainwater was not held against her will, but did not have access to a telephone or the option of getting a ride home until Wednesday.
Rainwater's mother picked her up in Macon on Wednesday night, Hinson said. She told police Thursday that the old man she had referred to was simply an onlooker, and he did not follow her or do any harm.
Barrow County Sheriff's Office spokesman Chief Deputy Murray Kogod said Wednesday that Malpass had never been reported missing.
No charges have been filed, Hinson said, but the investigation is ongoing.
