SUWANEE - The Gwinnett Board of Education approved the appointments of two new principals for the 2006-2007 school year at a special called meeting this week.
Clay Hunter will be the new principal of Susan Stripling Elementary School. He has been with Gwinnett County Public Schools since 2000, when he was a teacher at Norcross High School. Prior to that, he taught for five years at Milton High School in Fulton County. Hunter also served as an assistant principal at Meadowcreek High School and is an administrator at J.P. McConnell Middle School. He has a bachelor's degree from Morehouse College and a master's degree from the University of Georgia. Denise Showell will be taking over as principal of Richard Hull Middle School. For 18 years, she has been a teacher or school administrator in New Jersey, Cobb County and Gwinnett County. She is an assistant principal at Lilburn Middle School. Showell has a bachelor's degree and a master's degree from Montclair State University in New Jersey. She also has a specialist's degree from Lincoln Memorial University in Tennessee. They will be replacing principals Donna Ledford and Gwen Tatum, who will be transferring to lead J.C. Magill Elementary School and Shiloh High School, respectively. The school board approved Ledford and Tatum's principal appointments, along with seven others, at its monthly board meeting in February. All of the principal appointments will be effective in July, a few weeks before students return for the 2006-2007 academic year.More like this story
