Weir named top amateur athlete by Atlanta group
Brookwood grad Amanda Weir, one of the nation's top swimmers and a two-time silver medalist at the 2004 Olympics, received an Atlanta Sports Award on Monday night as the Amateur Athlete of the Year. The inaugural Atlanta Sports Awards were presented by the Atlanta Sports Council and Applebee's. South names Jones as new volleyball coach South Gwinnett High School announced the hiring of Stacy Jones as its new volleyball coach on Tuesday. Jones is already in her first year as a teacher at the Snellville school. She was head volleyball coach at NAIA Virginia Union University in Richmond from 1997 to 2001. Toms commits to BellSouth Classic David Toms, the ninth-ranked golfer in the world, has committed to play in the upcoming BellSouth Classic, held March 30 to April 2 at the TPC at Sugarloaf in Duluth. Toms won the 2001 PGA Championship at Duluth's Atlanta Athletic Club and already has a victory this season at the Sony Open. Prep Rally airs state hoops highlights This week's Gwinnett Prep Rally includes highlights from the South Gwinnett-McEachern, Pebblebrook-Mill Creek and Wesleyan-Holy Innocents' girls games and from the Peachtree Ridge-Wheeler and Meadowcreek-Milton boys games. Gwinnett Prep Rally airs each Wednesday and Thursday at 7:30 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. on Comcast Channel 25 and each Wednesday and Thursday at 9:30 p.m. on Charter Cable 19. It also airs on GCPS each Thursday at 10:30 p.m. and Friday at 6 p.m.More like this story
