Winder, Barrow partner on sewer

WINDER - A Winder wastewater facility, currently under construction, will also treat wastewater from Barrow County under an agreement signed this week.

The Cedar Creek Wastewater Facility will handle a million gallons of county wastewater daily once it is completed. The city will also take 200,000 gallons daily immediately into its Land Application System.

Bob Beck, Winder's city administrator, said the $20 million project is expected to be completed in December 2007. It will have a four million gallon daily capacity.

The county will also have the option to purchase more capacity.

Commission Chairman Doug Garrison said the arrangement would make it easier to put sewer at the new courthouse and jail facility. It will also provide sewer service to the Ga. Highway 211 corridor and the county's northwest corner.

The county will also pay some of the plants costs, with the first $2 million coming from funds from a penny sales tax and additional costs being paid through tap fees.
