NORCROSS - One person was killed in a car accident on Interstate 85 southbound late Friday.
As it changed lanes, a tractor-trailer moving from the far left lane to the far right lane at Jimmy Carter Boulevard sideswiped a Mercury, said Cpl. Darren Moloney, spokesman for the Gwinnett County Police Department. The Mercury came to a complete stop in one of the highway's through lanes, Moloney said, and a Toyota Camry came to a complete stop behind it. But a second tractor-trailer struck the Camry, which held three adults and a child. "It was basically two wrecks that came together as one," Moloney said. The child, who Moloney said was about seven, was transported to the hospital and treated for injuries that were not life-threatening. One person in the back seat, who has not been identified, was killed. Moloney said another occupant of the Camry was transported to the hospital in critical condition. No one has been charged yet in the accident, which occurred about 10:30 p.m., but Moloney said several charges are expected. The wreck temporarily shut down three lanes of I-85 south.More like this story
