J.D. Reddaway finished 31st at the U.S. Optimist Dingy Association's team trials to qualify for the North American Championships.
Reddaway, 13, from Suwanee, finished 31st out of 183 competitors at the team trials in Long Island, N.Y., on May 3-7 and will compete in Puerto Rico on July 2-11 at the championships.
To reach the team trials in May, Reddaway had to qualify for them last year in Norfolk, Va., where he finished 20th out of 317 competitors.
Renegades win county championship
The 12-and-under South Gwinnett Renegades defeated the Mill Creek Hawks 11-6 to claim the 2006 Gwinnett County Championship.
The Greater Gwinnett Baseball League team finished 19-1 during the regular season then went 8-0 during pool play and the championship series, finishing 27-1 in GGBL play.
The Renegades' overall record was 47-6 with three tournament titles. Team members are Clint Carr, Michael Gouge, Parker Graves, Austin Loyd, Brian McGrath, Lucas Sims, Steven Slaughter, Patrick Smith, Drew Thompson, Nick Tompkins and Ryan Woodard. The team is coached by Elliott Thompson and assisted by coaches Randy Loyd, Jerry McGrath, and Reggie Tompkins. Leanne Woodard is the team representative.
