BUFORD - Local parents and community members will soon have a chance to review the state's proposed mathematics textbooks.
Glenn C. Jones Middle School will be hosting the curriculum materials being considered for future use in Georgia elementary and middle schools. The public is invited to look them over and leave their feedback from June 19 to July 7.
The selected mathematics textbooks will be used starting the 2007-08 school year.
The proposed materials will be available for public review within each congressional district in Georgia. Jones Middle School will host the viewing for the seventh district, which includes Gwinnett, Barrow and Walton counties.
At the school, the public will be able to fill out community evaluation forms regarding the materials. All feedback from parents, community members and school system employees will be collected and submitted to the Georgia Department of Education.
Representatives from 21 textbook and educational vendors presented their respective mathematics materials last week to the state's textbook adoption advisory committee. The committee will decide which materials to approve when it reconvenes July 17. They will then be submitted to the Georgia Board of Education for final approval.
