LAWRENCEVILLE - Just a few miles east of heavy construction on the interchange of Interstate 85 and Ga. Highway 316, another project will cause overnight lane closures on Ga. 316.
Georgia Department of Transportation officials announced closures so crews can replace the entire eastbound outside lane of the highway from Ga. Highway 20 to U.S. Highway 29.
"We are now up to the intersection of 316 eastbound and Hi-Hope Road," said DOT District Engineer Russell McMurry. "We have to replace the outside lane of 316 eastbound at the intersection and the only way to remove the concrete and replace it the intersection of 316 eastbound and Hi-Hope Road is to close Hi-Hope Road at 316 eastbound for one night."
That work will begin at 9 p.m. Wednesday, if weather permits. The intersection will only be closed on the east side toward Lawrenceville. McMurry recommends a detour route of Hi-Hope Road to Hurricane Shoals Road to Ga. 316.
The work will wrap up by 6 a.m. and begin again at 9 p.m. Thursday night at the Progress Center. The work will again only be on the east side of Ga. 316 and should be complete by 6 a.m. Friday. For that project, McMurry recommends a detour route from Progress Center Avenue to Airport Road to Hurricane Shoals Road to Ga. 316.
The DOT had previously announced closures this week for the I-85/Ga. 316 project.
The inside lane of I-85 north will close from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday through Friday so crews can pour concrete for the new Old Norcross bridge.
