Georgia Sports Writers Association honors Daily Post

The Gwinnett Daily Post won 10 awards in the Division II category, including 2005's best sports section layout, in voting conducted by the Georgia Sports Writers Association. The awards were presented on Sunday at the organization's annual convention in Macon.

The Daily Post also placed first for best special section for its high school football preview and was second overall for best sports section.

Individually, staff writer Corey Clark won four awards, including first place for best sports news story on deadline for his pre-draft story on South Gwinnett's Louis Williams.

Clark also had two second-place finishes (for Georgia's Davey Pollack getting drafted and his story on Buford's Matt Pridemore recovering from an auto accident) and a third-place finish (for a feature on Shiloh's Jessica Kalonji being haunted by terror in her

homeland).

Staff writer Christine Troyke won two awards, a second place for best high school sports event story on deadline (Greater Atlanta Christian basketball team wins playoff game at buzzer) and a third place for best high school sports news story on deadline (Wesleyan names award after Will Jackson).

Sports editor Will Hammock placed first for best high school sports event story on deadline for his story on the Parkview girls soccer team winning the state championship.
