BUFORD - A 33-year-old man spent Monday night in surgery after being hit by a train, authorities said.
At press time Monday, the man was in critical condition at Grady Memorial Hospital after being airlifted from the scene of the Buford crash. Cpl. R.D. Work said the train struck the man while he was walking on the Norfolk-Southern tracks. "They saw him and they tried to stop, but it takes a long time for a train to stop," Work said. The name of the man was withheld Monday so that his family could be notified. According to Work, the crash occurred just after 5:30 p.m. between Shadburn Ferry and South Water Works Road. Fire Department spokesman Thomas Rutledge said firefighters extricated the man from underneath the train.More like this story
