LAWRENCEVILLE - Initial construction of a bridge crossing Interstate 85 will mean lane closures on the highway for three days this week.
From Pleasant Hill Road to Ga. Highway 316, the inside lane of I-85 will be closed Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m., Georgia Department of Transportation District Engineer Russell McMurry said.
Crews will be pouring concrete to begin work on one of 13 bridges that is a part of the project.
There will be no blasting on I-85 this week, but controlled blasting will resume later this month, according to the DOT.
The "squeeze" on Ga. Highway 316 is still in place, with one lane remaining closed past Sugarloaf Parkway. It requires drivers to merge about 1,000 feet earlier than before.
The overall project costs $147 million and is due to be completed by the end of 2008. For traffic information, see www.georgianavigator.com.
