WINDER - Police say they are "back at square one" in searching for the person who gunned down a cashier at a Mexican restaurant in April.
Servando Duron Nieto was killed at El Manantial Restaurant about 10:30 p.m. April 7, and Winder police Lt. Dennis Dorsey said previously that the department was following leads and searching for a Hispanic male suspect in his late teens or early 20s.
Friday, he said those tips did not pan out.
"The leads did not materialize, and we're pretty much at square one," he said.
Dorsey said witnesses to the shooting, which also injured Almanida Murilla when a stray bullet struck her in the head, did not provide the information needed for an arrest.
The suspect reportedly left the scene in a dark, four-door import - possibly a Honda. Police believe the shooter and Nieto knew each other.
Dorsey said investigators are looking for any details that might open up the case. He urged any witnesses to call the Police Department at 770-867-2156.
