Man accused of fatally stabbing stepson

LAWRENCEVILLE - A Lawrenceville man stabbed his stepson to death Friday morning following an argument in the parking lot of their apartment complex, according to police.

Dextro Orlando Harvey, 41, is being held without bond at the Gwinnett County Detention Center on charges of murder, felony murder and possession of a knife while committing a crime.

Officers who were dispatched to investigate a reported stabbing at 4 a.m. encountered 34-year-old Franklin Prince, of Lawrenceville, lying in the parking lot of Charleston at Sweetwater apartments at 2261 Amber Trail. Prince had been "severely stabbed," said Cpl. Darren Moloney, spokesman for the Gwinnett County Police Department.

Prince was rushed to Gwinnett Medical Center, where he later died as a result of the stab wounds.

Witnesses said Harvey fled the scene before police arrived, but officers found him in the parking lot of a Kroger shopping center at the intersection of Herrington and Cruse roads. Harvey was arrested without a fight, Moloney said.

Investigators are still trying to determine the motive for the fight.

"It is unknown what started the physical altercation," said Moloney.
