LAWRENCEVILLE - Crews plan to halt traffic for blasting on Interstate 85 Saturday and three times the following week.
According to Georgia Department of Transportation District Engineer Russell McMurry, motorists can expect three blasts a week for the rest of the summer on the project to reconstruct the I-85 and Ga. Highway 316 interchange and extend the high occupancy vehicle lane system in Gwinnett County. Crews are working to ready the area along I-85 near Old Norcross Road for blasting, and if the weather and the work cooperate, charges will go off at about 10 a.m. Saturday. Blasting is also scheduled for 1 p.m. both Tuesday and Thursday, and at 9 a.m. Aug. 5. According to the DOT procedure, traffic will be stopped on the interstate, Ga. 316 and Old Norcross Road for about 10 minutes. While no lane closures are scheduled for the weekend, crews are anticipating closing the outside lane of I-85 northbound from Pleasant Hill Road to Ga. 316 from 1 a.m. to 1 p.m. Aug. 3.More like this story
