NORCROSS - A construction company struck a gas line on Harbins Road in Norcross Monday, forcing about 13 people to evacuate from two nearby houses while the leak was fixed.
A road work crew struck the 4-inch natural gas main while digging with a trackhoe, department spokesman Lt. Thomas Rutledge said. Two fire engines and a battalion chief from the Gwinnett County Fire Department responded to the scene at 9:38 a.m. Rutledge said a Atlanta Gas Light emergency crew also responded in order to control the leak. Rutledge said firefighters established a "hot zone perimeter" and monitored gas levels while the gas company worked to control the leak. Firefighters also closed Harbins Road between Dickens Road and Windemere Oak Drive. The road reopened and firefighters left the scene at 11:51 a.m. No injuries were reported.More like this story
