Samuel J. Robertson, 85, died Friday, July 21, 2006 in Fort Worth. Funeral: 10 a.m. Wednesday at Wiley Funeral Home. Burial: 2 p.m. in Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Samuel was born March 28, 1921 in Glenwood, Ark. to Samuel Thomas and Carrie Adeline Garrett Robertson. He was a World War II veteran serving as a Staff Sergeant in the 2nd 20th Air Forces until his honorable discharge on Nov. 25, 1945. He was an aircraft mechanic, crew chief, flight engineer, instructor and gunner on the B-24 and B-29 aircraft. He was employed by International Minerals and Chemical Corp. in Carlsbad, N.M. from July 9, 1948 until his retirement on Oct. 1, 1984. He married Reba Nell Thacker on Dec. 24, 1958 in Loving, N.M. He was a member of the Third and Kilgore Church of Christ in Portales, N.M. He was preceded in death by his parents, eight brothers and two sisters. Survivors: Wife, Reba Robertson; daughter and husband, Carrie and Jeff Hurd; sons and wives, Sam and Gina Robertson III and Andy and Mona Robertson; brother and wife, Tom and Elizabeth Robertson; 15 grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
