Norcross, Gwinnett officers work together to arrest 11 in undercover operation

NORCROSS - One guy said he was looking for a prostitute because his sister died. Another said the woman he attempted to buy for sex wasn't for him - she was for his friend.

Norcross Police Chief Dallas Stidd said he wondered briefly how the man intended to get the woman back to his friend, then arrested him anyway.

In conjunction with the Gwinnett County Police Department and the Sheriff's Department, Norcross police set up a prostitution sting on Indian Trail Road Saturday evening. The sting began about 7:30 p.m., Stidd said, and had already netted about 11 johns by 10:30 p.m. He said they might collect as many as 50 by 1 or 2 a.m., when the operation was scheduled to end.

Stidd said a similar sting using undercover police officers to pose as prostitutes caught eight johns around lunchtime Wednesday.

Police could pick any area, Stidd said, but chose Indian Trail on both sides of Interstate 85 because of the number of hotels and because they had been successful there before. Stidd said it was the first time all three departments had worked together to end prostitution.

He said a john approaches an undercover officer and offers her money or other payment in exchange for sex. They then go to a hotel where police are waiting and are arrested.

Stidd was cut short by another approaching john, but said he thinks the stings are a good effort.

"We're just trying to improve the quality of life," he said.
