Public safety day this weekend

•WINDER - Barrow County will hold its first annual public safety day at Holly Hill Mall this weekend.

The event will take place from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday and will feature the Barrow County Sheriff's Office, Barrow County Fire and Emergency Services and other local and state public safety agencies.

A DUI simulation course and child safety seat checkpoint are among the planned events.

Air Force Junior ROTC attends


•LAWRENCEVILLE - Four Air Force Junior ROTC cadets attended a youth leadership conference.

The North Gwinnett High School students selected to attend the Military Order of World Wars conference in Charleston, S.C., were Nicholas Mahoney, Melanie Underwood, Jeff Thomas and Brooke Sobeck.

•WINDER - Radio movie reviewers Jon Graham and Brian Wages will now be heard on three more stations in coastal Georgia.

Their full-length show, "Take Two with The Ticket Stubs," began in February on WIMO in Winder and they've now added three affiliates.

The Stubs created a feature called "60 Seconds with The Ticket Stubs" that is more convenient for stations to place in their programming.

Those stations are NewsTalk 1230 WGA in Waycross and THE FAN, Sports Radio AM 790 and AM 1350 (WFNS and WSFN) in Brunswick. The coverage of these three stations extends to Savannah, Hilton Head, S.C., and Jacksonville, Fla.

"Take Two with The Ticket Stubs" can be heard live every Tuesday at noon on NewsTalk 1300 AM WIMO, or through the station's Web site,

Braselton gets new water supervisor

•BRASELTON - Hubert Day is Braselton's new wastewater supervisor in the Public Utilities department.

Day has worked 18 years in wastewater management including 15 years with the Gwinnett County Public Utilities department. He holds the Georgia EPD certification for management and supervision. Braselton's municipal system serves customers in Jackson, Barrow, Gwinnett and Hall Counties.

Day and his family live in Walton County.
