Youth roundup: Collins Hill Soaring Eagles win ASA title

The Collins Hill 12-and-under girls travel softball team won the ASA 'A' state championship last weekend by defeating the Georgia Crusaders, North Gwinnett Mad Dogs, Georgia Jaguars, Worth Cobras (Black) and the Georgia Xtreme (Black) in the championship game.

The team also received a berth to the ASA 'A' Nationals to be held in Bloomington, Ind., in August by winning the South Atlantic Regional Tournament on June 18.

Team members are: Taylor Anderson, Savanna Berkhiser, Alexis Boyd, Sarah Crotts, Caitlin Fowler, Jessica Neidigh, Lexie Overstreet, Shelley Sweatt, Darsey Walker and Amanda Winters. The team is coached by Dave Sweatt, Ron Berkhiser, Dean Boyd, Greg Neidigh and Craig Anderson.


Mountain Park Panthers claim state title

The Mountain Park Panthers 12-and-under fastpitch softball team won the ASA State 'B' tourney last weekend in Lovejoy.

The Panthers swept through the winners bracket and beat the North Georgia Fury 7-3 in the finals. This was the Panthers' ninth tournament title this season.

Team members are: Callie Adams, Jenny Blackwell, Daron Blankenship, Leah Chandley, Sara Coker, Krista Gustafson, Kylie Kleinschmidt, Caitlin McClure, Molly McClure and Corie Terwilliger. Coaches are: David Chandley, Craig Coker, Laura Kleinschmidt, David McClure and Libbie Terwilliger.

Blaze wins state championship

The '95 Blaze girls fastpitch travel ball team won the ASA State Championship for 10-and-under "A" level softball last weekend at Al Bishop Park.

The team is made up of girls from Lawrenceville, Snellville, Lilburn and Loganville. The girls have won 10 of 13 tournaments and have earned a berth to the ASA National tournament in Moline, Ill., the first week of August.

The players are: Haley Jones, Mandy Blackwell, Susan Norris, Ashley Stephan, Elizabeth Slaughter, Meagan Naraine, Kensey Caldwell, Delaney Gish, Courtney Vogelman, Daniella Ulloa and Meagan Adams. The team is coached by Wade Blackwell, Diane Adams and Greg Gish.


Hall qualifies for national diving championships

Duluth's Lauren Hall has qualified for the Speedo National Junior Diving Championships, which will be held at the Indiana University Natatorium in Indianapolis on July 26-30.

She qualified in two events by placing in the top 12 at the 2006 junior summer east championships in Moultrie on July 6-9. Hall was third in the 3-meter and 11th on platform at the east championships.


Collins Hill team completes successful season

The Collins Hill American Pee-Wee All-Stars completed a successful season. The team won the sub-district championship, was district runner-up and placed third at the Dixie Youth Georgia State Tournament.

The team members are Reed Egan, Riley King, Cole Zabowski, Ian Jenkins, Jeremy Lewis, Daniel White, Alec Cargin, Sam Hudson, Davis Frondorf, Justin George, Brett Jones, Elijah Geniesse, Griffin Gill and Casey Marksberry. The team is coached by Billy Egan, Rich Zabowski and Neil Hudson.
