STONE MOUNTAIN - A 36-year-old man is accused of fondling two teenage girls in separate incidents at Mountain Park Aquatic Center in Stone Mountain.
Derrick Terry Garner was arrested Thursday at his Stone Mountain home on a misdemeanor charge of sexual battery and a felony charge of child molestation. Police believe Garner approached a 15-year-old and a 17-year-old girl at different times and asked if they knew how to swim. Without waiting for an answer, Garner would grab the girl and touch her in an inappropriate sexual manner, said Cpl. Darren Moloney, spokesman for the Gwinnett County Police Department. The Mountain Park Aquatic Center has an indoor lap pool, indoor warm water pool and outdoor play pool for summer season. The unwanted advances on the 15-year-old girl reportedly occurred in the indoor warm water pool on June 18. The 17-year-old was inappropriately touched by Garner in the same pool three days later, Moloney said. In both of the incidents, the victims said they were forced to kick Garner to escape his clutches. Aquatic center personnel contacted police and forwarded investigators identifying information, which led to Garner's arrest Thursday. Garner is being held without bond at the Gwinnett County Detention Center in Lawrenceville. Officials at Mountain Park Aquatic Center and Gwinnett County Department of Parks and Recreation declined to comment about the case.More like this story
