SUWANEE - The Suwanee Police Department has promoted Janet Moon to second-in-command of the department, making her one of the highest-ranking female law enforcement officers in Gwinnett County.
Moon was promoted Wednesday from the rank of captain, a post she had held since November 2001, to deputy chief. She will be responsible for day-to-day operations of the department and supervise a staff of 32 employees.
Moon is a native of Cedartown, and she now lives in Flowery Branch. She worked for the Rome Police Department from 1989 to 2001. Prior to that, she served four years as a military police officer in the U.S. Army. She is a graduate of the FBI National Academy and the Georgia Law Enforcement Command College through Columbus State University.
Moon has an associate's degree in criminal justice from Floyd College, a bachelor's degree in organizational management from Covenant College and a master's degree in public administration from Columbus State University.
