LAWRENCEVILLE - A 46-year-old man was shot to death during a robbery attempt Saturday evening at a Norcross apartment complex.
Neighbors called police at 9:38 p.m. after they heard gunshots and found Aurelio German Mendoza-Garcia wounded in the parking lot of Bristol Courts Apartment Complex at 3777 Elmside Village Lane. Police have no witnesses or suspects, said Cpl. Darren Moloney, spokesman for the Gwinnett County Police Department.
Investigators are trying to determine whether the incident may be linked to two other armed robberies targeting Hispanics at Bristol Court Apartments the previous day.
The first occurred at 11 p.m. Friday, when a 51-year-old man was robbed while unloading groceries from his car. The victim told police a white man approached him first, put a gun to his head and demanded "dinero," according to a police report. A second black man then came up demanded the keys to his vehicle. The pair fled in a white Chevy Silverado occupied by two other men, the police report stated.
Less than half an hour later, a 44-year-old woman was sitting in her car chatting with her friend, a 42-year-old man, when two robbers fitting the same description walked up to them. The white suspect put a gun to the man's head, ordered him in Spanish not to move and then reached into the victim's pocket to steal his wallet. The black suspect reached into the car and grabbed the woman's purse.
The two suspects ran into a wooded area nearby. Both men were described as being about 25 years old and wearing dark clothing. The white man had a round face, shoulder-length hair and was about 5 feet 10 inches tall and 170 pounds, a police report stated. The black suspect reportedly had a narrow face and was of unknown height and weight.
"We are looking at those recent armed robberies," Moloney said. "It's too early to tell if they are related."
Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call the Gwinnett police Criminal Investigation Division at 770-513-5300.
