Mr. James M. Mercer, age 94, of Buford, GA passed away on January 9, 2006. He was preceded in death by his wife, Vera Young Mercer. Mr. Mercer was born in Morganfield, KY and was a former resident of Pontiac, MI for many years. He was retired from General Motors Truck Coach Company in Pontiac, MI. He was a member of the First Baptist Church, Buford, GA and a former member of Bethany Baptist Church in Pontiac, MI. He was a resident of Brookside Assisted Living in Buford, GA for over 10 years. James Waldon Gunderson passed away on January 24, 2006. Services will be held at 6 p.m. on Friday, January 27 at Tim Stewart Funeral Home, 300 Simonton Road in Lawrenceville. Visitation is at 5 p.m., prior to the funeral service. James was a dear and cherished son, brother, husband, father and grandpa. He was born on December 5, 1933 in his much-loved hometown of Colfax, Wisconsin. He was the proud son of the late Gilbert and Josephine Gunderson. James grew up in Colfax and later graduated from his prized University of Wisconsin (UW) at Madison, with a Bachelor of Science degree in journalism. It was at UW where he began his passion for a newspaper career, serving as sports editor of the campus paper, The Daily Cardinal. Upon graduating from UW, James continued on with his lengthy and esteemed journalism career, working for Thomson, Lee Enterprises and Gannett newspapers. With great talent and faithful diligence, he was promoted up the newspaper chain while working in a number of states--serving as a sports editor, columnist, editorial page editor, production manager, general manager, and then reaching his goal of becoming a newspaper publisher. In his later years, James received a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration from Nazareth College in Michigan. He also worked as a labor analyst for Grumman Olson in Sturgis, Michigan; and as a regional manager for seminars and training at Walk Thru the Bible Ministries in Atlanta, Georgia. James was an active member of Hebron Church in Dacula, Georgia. An intelligent, gentle and kind person with many creative talents and tremendous integrity, his faith and family were of most importance to him. He is preceded in death by his parents (Gilbert and Josephine) and his brother, A. Duane Gunderson. He is survived by his beloved wife, Joyce Allene Gunderson; his son, Thomas James Gunderson; his daughter, Mary Joyce Switzer; his grandson, Aaron James Switzer; his son-in-law, James Russell Switzer; and his daughter-in-law, Yvonne Faith Gunderson. Retired C&S Bank Officer, Maynard Hudson (M.H.) Plant, age 80 of The Park Springs Retirement Center in Stone Mountain, GA passed away on January 25, 2006. He was pre-deceased by his parents, Louis and Bessie Pennington Plant and brothers, Murray and James Plant. He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Cleo H. Plant; 3 nephews, a niece, many business associates of Bank America and a host of friends. M.H. was an Army-Air Force Veteran of World War II and retired after 40 years of service, as a Vice-President of C&S Bank. After his retirement, he continued to draw on his banking experience by helping many people get established in business. He was active in the retiree organization of Bank America and many civic organizations, and was a member of Smoke Rise Baptist Church and the Seeker's Sunday School Class. He and his wife enjoyed many years of world-wide travel. Funeral services will be held Friday, January 27 at 1pm at Smoke Rise Baptist Church with Dr. Bob Browning and Dr. Chuck Moates officiating.
