DACULA - An 18-year-old Dacula man was killed early Tuesday when a car he was riding in veered off the road and struck a telephone pole.
Authorities said a 2002 Mitsubishi Eclipse was traveling west on New Hope Road between Palm Creek Court and Amberly Hill Trail when the driver lost control. The car left the roadway at about 1:55 a.m., slamming into a cement culvert before colliding with a telephone poll, said Officer Darren Moloney, spokesman for the Gwinnett County Police Department. The driver of the car, 19-year-old Cory Johnson of Dacula, was taken to Gwinnett Medical Center with non life-threatening injuries. He was released later that day. The passenger in the car, Robert Lee Watson, was pronounced dead at the scene. No charges were pending against Johnson at press time. Moloney said the accident is still under investigation.More like this story
