Dacula's Warren, Brookwood's Crews among TD Club honorees
Dacula senior Josh Warren and Brookwood head football coach Mark Crews will be honored by The Touchdown Club of Atlanta at its Feb. 4 season-ending banquet at the Marriott Gwinnett Place. Warren, who helped his team to the state semifinals by catching 15 touchdowns, was picked as the Metro Atlanta Offensive Back of the Year and Crews, whose team made the state finals, was selected as the Class AAAAA Coach of the Year. Mitch Mustain of Springdale, Ark., and Andre Smith of Birmingham, Ala., were selected as the Bobby Dodd National High School Players of the Year. Other prep winners were Washington's Reshad Jones (top defensive back), Westlake's Kiante Tripp (top offensive lineman), Douglass' Akeem Dent (top defensive lineman), East Coweta's Danny Cronic and Washington County's Rick Tomberlin (200-game winners), Charlton County's Rich McWhorter and Lowndes' Randy McPherson (overall Coaches of the Year), Lincoln County's Larry Campbell (A Coach of the Year), Calhoun's Hal Lamb (AA Coach of the Year), Peach County's Rance Gillespie (AAA Coach of the Year) and Statesboro's Steve Pennington (AAAA Coach of the Year). College award winners are Georgia's D.J. Shockley (top offensive back), Auburn's Marcus McNeill (top offensive lineman), Alabama's Demeco Ryans (top defensive back), Virginia Tech's Darryl Tapp (top defensive lineman), Wake Forest's Ryan Plackemeier (top special teams), Virginia Tech's Frank Beamer (ACC Coach of the Year), Georgia's Mark Richt (SEC Coach of the Year), Georgia's Larry Munson (Outstanding Contribution) and Dexter Odom (Outstanding Football Official). Broncos' Smith on Countdown to Signing Day Brookwood running back Cameron Smith is an in-studio guest on Wednesday's Countdown to Signing Day, a college football recruiting TV show. The program airs Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. on Fox Sports Net South. Parkview, Collins Hill wrestling ranked in Southeast The Parkview wrestling team is ranked fifth and the Collins Hill squad is eighth in the Wrestling USA Magazine Southeast Regional Rankings. Only one other Georgia team made the rankings, McEachern at No. 7. Former GAC coach Kelsey scores big win Former Greater Atlanta Christian boys basketball coach Tom Kelsey led his Belhaven College (Miss.) basketball team to a big upset last week, an 88-83 win over host LSU-Shreveport, the No. 5 team in the country. Kelsey resigned from GAC after the 2004-2005 season to take the head coaching job at Belhaven, an NAIA program in Jackson, Miss. - From staff reportsMore like this story
