DULUTH - Gwinnett's golf and tennis crowd will soon have a new amenity.
A PGA Tour superstore is headed for the Gwinnett Place Mall area at Interstate 85 and Steve Reynolds Boulevard.
The 78,000-square-foot store is moving into the former Incredible Universe auto installation business on West Liddel Road, a busy retail area that big-box discount stores Costco and Target also call home.
The PGA superstore will stand next to Dave & Busters. Renovations are under way. Doors are set to open in April.
The project is being launched by Golf & Tennis Pro Shop Inc., an Atlanta-based company that has similar stores in Roswell and Myrtle Beach, S.C. The company is also opening a Kennesaw location next month.
"We are very excited about the potential for the PGA Tour superstore concept to revolutionize golf retailing," Tim Finchem, PGA Tour commissioner, said in a press release.
The Duluth superstore will be among the largest, with extra room for putting greens and an indoor tennis court, said Chief Financial Officer Jorge Cora. He said Gwinnett's growing population and abundant golf courses made the county an obvious choice for the company's third Georgia store.
"It's got a retail footprint that stretches from Snellville to Gainesville," Cora said.
The PGA Tour superstore carries golf and tennis equipment and apparel. The chain also offers instruction on how to improve a customer's tennis and golf game.
