SUWANEE - The Gwinnett Board of Education will have its first meeting of the new year in a brand new facility. Community members who attend Thursday's meeting will have a chance to see the huge new Instructional Support Center in Suwanee.
The ISC takes up about 46 acres and 370,000 square feet. The board's new meeting room can hold up to 632 people, more than twice the capacity of the old board room. Its size will allow more residents to attend the meetings, including sports teams when they are honored by the board. This Thursday, the board will recognize the Peachtree Ridge High School cheerleading team, the AAAAA state champions. Last month, school system employees from five different departments moved their offices into the ISC. The board will discuss at the meeting how best to use the now available space in four older facilities. Since it is the first meeting of 2006, the Board of Education will reaffirm its policies, adopt the year's meeting schedule and reappoint board officers.More like this story
