LAWRENCEVILLE - Fund raising for the Georgia Special Olympics this year will be the frosting on the cake, err, doughnut, for area law enforcement officers this weekend.
Not only will they be collecting cash for a worthy cause, Gwinnett police officers and sheriff's deputies will get to spend two days - from 6 a.m. today until 6 p.m. Sunday - sitting atop two area Krispy Kreme Doughnut shops. When the infamous red "Hot Doughnuts Now" sign lights up, they can be first in line to grab the tasty, sugar-glazed confection favored by cops everywhere. OK, so it isn't really that sweet of a deal. Camping out on a roof for two frigid days in February may in fact be the last thing these officers had in mind for a relaxing weekend. But they are sticking it out to help support Georgia's 22,550 athletes with developmental disabilities. So stop by, grab a doughnut and pitch in a few dollars or spare change. Officers from the Gwinnett County Police Department will be at the Krispy Kreme at 3387 Buford Drive in Buford and Gwinnett County sheriff's deputies will be at the shop at 1550 Pleasant Hill Road in Duluth.More like this story
