Gwinnett gets grant to study corridor

LAWRENCEVILLE - Gwinnett County is getting a $100,000 regional grant so it can study ways to improve the Indian Trail-Lilburn Road corridor.

The road lined by businesses and subdivisions links Norcross to Lilburn, and the money will be used to hire a consulting firm that will catalog the corridor's shortcomings and devise ways to improve and revitalize it.

The funds are being doled out by the Atlanta Regional Commission is part of its Livable Centers Initiative.

A group trying to create a community improvement district in the Norcross area initiated the grant application process.

Listing what infrastructure the road lacks shouldn't be difficult, said Chuck Warbington, executive director of the Southwest Gwinnett Village Community Improvement Association.

"That part's going to be easy because there are no sidewalks on Indian Trail," Warbington said.
