Local preschool earns national accreditation

A Gwinnett preschool received a high level of accreditation given to only 7 percent of early childhood programs across the country.

The Children's World Learning Center in Lilburn became the latest local preschool to be honored by the National Association for the Education of Young Children.

"Recognition from NAEYC confirms our commitment to providing a high-quality curriculum and a healthy, nurturing environment in which children can learn and grow," said Kimberly Hathaway, the center's director.

Accreditation is awarded to preschools based on a rigorous application process, culminated by a site visit by a team of national experts. Among other factors, their decision is based on the child care center's environment, curriculum and communication with families.

Students earn scholarships

Two students from Grayson have earned scholarships from their college fraternity, Kappa Sigma. The funds will go toward their tuition and fees at Georgia College and State University.

Junior William Thompson received $2,500, the top award amount given to an undergraduate. He is a senator in the Georgia College Student Government Association and the treasurer of his fraternity.

Brad Kuglin received $500 from the fraternity's endowment fund. The junior is the chapter's scribe and served as its co-recruitment chair last year.
