Citizens Police Academy starts
SUWANEE - Classes begin in March for the Suwanee Citizens Police Academy, a class that gives a behind-the-scenes look at policing. Classes begin March 7, and are held once each week for seven weeks. The program is open to Suwanee residents and those who work in the city. Topics include crime scene investigations, firearms safety, traffic stops, crime prevention and motor vehicle enforcement. The deadline for applications is Feb. 24. Applications are available online at www.suwanee.com or by contacting Sgt. Elias Casanas at elias@suwanee.com or 770-945-4607, ext. 327. All applicants are required to undergo background checks. Snellville woman has work featured in magazine SNELLVILLE - A Snellville woman has her work featured in the February/March issue of Mother Earth News magazine. Genevieve Riggs Williams wrote about her natural solutions to controlling cholesterol. Gwinnett Tech offers tax prep LAWRENCEVILLE - Gwinnett Technical College is partnering with AARP Tax-Aide to offer free income tax preparation and tax counseling. Volunteers will be at the campus through April 15. Counseling and assistance is available in Room 2201 of The Busbee Center at Gwinnett Tech from noon to 4 p.m. Wednesdays and Thursdays and from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Fridays.
