Aircraft workshop to be held Jan. 6

•LAWRENCEVILLE - The Experimental Aircraft Association will host a free seminar titled "Owner/Operator Aircraft Maintenance" Jan. 6 at Gwinnett County's Briscoe Field.

The program is open to anyone who owns, rents, operates or has ever questioned what maintenance they could or could not perform legally on their aircraft.

Brian Wallis will review and discuss how the aircraft owner/operator can help control operating expenses by performing some of their own preventative maintenance.

The program begins at 10:30 a.m. and is free and open to the public. A pancake breakfast and refreshments are available beginning at 8 a.m.

Coat drive benefits victims of violence

•SNELLVILLE - The Diamond in the Rough Youth Development Program, a faith-based Gwinnett County mentoring and leadership program, recently hosted a toy and coat drive that benefited the Partnership Against Domestic Violence.

The youth-driven project is one of many that teaches girls about the importance of serving others.

• LAWRENCEVILLE - Retirees and those approaching retirement are invited to attend a "Seniors Awareness" workshop hosted by The Lloyd Group Inc., a retirement planning and asset preservation firm.

The workshop will be offered at 11 a.m. Jan. 11 at the Gwinnett Senior Learning Center in Lawrenceville and will be conducted by Mark Lloyd, The Lloyd Group Inc.'s President and Founder.

A Certified Estate Planner, Lloyd offers more than 16 years of experience in all financial and insurance matters involving the soon-to-be retired and retired population. His presentation focuses on the myriad challenges facing retirees today, including preserving assets from the expensive cost of nursing home care, reducing taxes on social security income, avoiding nursing home stays with home care programs, increasing spendable income during retirement and managing an estate using wills, trusts, living wills and power of attorney.
