Powerade Roundup: Coleman's free throws lead Parkview girls past

SUWANEE - Despite converting just 8 of 23 shots from the free-throw line, the Parkview girls basketball team made two when in it mattered in the fourth quarter to beat Redan 42-39 in the Powerade Festival.

Lauren Coleman converted her final two free throws in the final minute to give the Panthers the final three-point lead, immediately after she missed a pair and was bailed out with an offensive rebound.

Helping the Panthers (7-3) overcome the meager performance from the line was Sczeny Hartry, who led the team with 17 points.

Parkview plays Central Gwinnett today in the championship game at 6:35 p.m.

Anelia Murray led Redan (9-1) with 17 points in its first loss of the season.

GIRLS

Berkmar 62, Roswell 49

SUWANEE - Berkmar's Gabby Harvey led all scorers with 20 as her Patriots topped Roswell 62-49 in the loser's bracket of the Powerade Festival on Thursday.

Behind Harvey's 20 was Kiara Evans with 17 for Berkmar (8-1).

Douglas County 56, Norcross 50

SUWANEE - Nicole Jones' 13 points were not enough for the Blue Devils as Norcross lost to Douglas County 56-50 in the loser's bracket of the Powerade Festival basketball tournament.

BOYS

Parkview 71, Lithia Springs 64

SUWANEE - After failing behind 13-3 early in the first quarter the Parkview Panthers chances of making to the finals of the Powerade Festival were waning.

But thanks to three 3s in the second quarter, two from John Block, Parkview (7-3) fought back and took a 38-37 lead into the half en route to a 71-64 win and a berth in the finals of the tournament today at 8:10 p.m. against North Gwinnett.

Lithia Springs (10-2) fought back in the second half, led by leading scorer Devoran Ashmon (20 points) to tie the game at 63 in the fourth quarter.

But Parkview's Yaw Gyawu scored eight of his game-high 28 in the final frame helping the Panthers hold on for the win.

Block followed Gyawu with 16 points and Bobby Glover added 14 for Parkview.

North Gwinnett 80, Douglas County 62

SUWANEE - With Andrew Anderson scoring 28 points and Ebuka Anyaorah adding another 21 North Gwinnett made its 80-62 semifinal win over Douglas County look easy.

North started pulling away from the start and its lead kept growing to as much as 24 in the fourth quarter before Douglas County scored a slew of points in the final minutes to cut its deficit to less than 20.

Decatur 43, Redan 41

SUWANEE - A pair of Bulldogs scored 10 points as Decatur topped Redan 43-41 in the loser's bracket of the Powerade Festival at North Gwinnett.

Berkmar 54, Lakeside-DeKalb 51

SUWANEE - Wesley Witherspoon led Berkmar with 23 points as the Patriots beat Lakeside-DeKalb 54-51 in the loser's bracket of the Powerade Festival basketball tournament at North Gwinnett.
