Thomas Alvin Huff, Sr.

Thomas (Tommy) Alvin Huff, Sr., formerly of Lawrenceville and now of Hawkinsville, GA was born on February 20, 1924, son of Thomas Lenard and Mattie Sure Harris Huff, went to be with the Lord on December 25, 2006. Tommy was the devoted husband of Peggy Jeanne Moorhead for 44 years, who predeceased him in 1995. They were the loving parents of two children: Pamela Jeanne Rosenberg Holcombe and Thomas Alvin “Al” Huff, Jr. In 1997, Tommy married Mary Jean Pace of Hawkinsville and together they have enjoyed living there for the last eight years. A graduate of North Georgia College, he served as a Navy Lieutenant in WWII. He was stationed in the Pacific Theater at the Battle of Leyte Gulf and was one of the first servicemen to enter Japan after the war. Tommy's first career was as a merchant in Lawrenceville on the old courthouse square, and he later served as the Executive Director of the Lawrenceville Housing Authority for the Department of Housing and Urban Development. Tommy was a member of the First Baptist Church of Lawrenceville and then a member of the St. Luke Episcopal Church in Hawkinsville. He is survived by his wife, Mary Jean Huff; daughter, Pamela and grandson, Mitchell Rosenberg; and son, Al Huff and his wife, Patricia “Sissy” and granddaughters, Mollie Ann Huff and Martha Claire Huff; sisters, Ione H. Clark and Mildred H. Breedlove; brothers, James S. Huff and Bryant Huff; nephews and nieces; and a host of dear friends. Funeral services are to be held at Wages and Sons Gwinnett Chapel on Friday, December 29, 2006 at 2:00p.m. with Dr. Warren Moorhead officiating. Burial will be at Gwinnett Memorial Park in Lawrenceville. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Tommy's memory to the American Heart Association, P.O. Box 672648, Marietta, GA 30006 or the American Lung Association, 2452 Spring Road, Smyrna, GA 30080. The family will receive friends on Friday from 11:00a.m. til time of service.
