NORCROSS - Investigators with the Gwinnett County Police Department arrested and charged an 18-year-old Norcross man with kidnapping and raping his 7-year-old relative.
Cpl. Darren Moloney said Eric Jacinto-Gomez allegedly entered the victim's bedroom late Friday night at the Saddle Brook Apartment Complex through a window and took the sleeping girl from her bed.
Moloney said preliminary investigations indicate Jacinto-Gomez, unarmed, carried the victim to a nearby wooded area, sexually assaulted her and took the girl back to her room, re-entering the apartment through the same bedroom window.
"I can say this was a very heinous chain of events," Moloney said.
An examination at the Gwinnett Sexual Assault Center confirmed sexual assault, Moloney added.
The alleged kidnapping was witnessed by the victim's sibling, whose age and sex was unknown by Moloney, sleeping in the same bedroom.
"It's my understanding the sibling saw the man bring the girl back into the room and one of them told the mother," Moloney said.
Police Saturday morning arrested the man at his Oakbrook Pointe apartment on 1635 Pirkle Road after they received a call from the mother who had previously confronted Jacinto-Gomez at his apartment home - just over a half a mile from the victim's residence.
Jacinto-Gomez was taken to the Gwinnett County Detention Center where he has been denied bond.
He faces additional felony charges of aggravated assault and burglary, both associated to the incident.
"We have no evidence of any previous arrests or time at the Gwinnett County Detention Center," Moloney said.
