Body found, foul play is suspected

SNELLVILLE - The identity of a woman found dead Tuesday morning near a Snellville hospital has not been released, but police are treating the death as a homicide.

The body of the 30-year-old black woman was discovered around 6:15 a.m. near the Eastside Physicians Center, which shares a parking lot with Emory Eastside Medical Center, said Detective Tim Colgan, a spokesman for the Snellville Police Department.

The cause of the death was still undetermined as of Tuesday afternoon, Colgan said.

The body was found by a hospital employee, who contacted hospital security, Colgan said. Snellville police were then notified of the discovery.

Colgan said police do not believe the woman was a hospital employee.

The case has been turned over to the Gwinnett County Police Department for further investigation, but department spokesman Cpl. Darren Moloney had no new information about the case Tuesday night.

Colgan said this is the first "real homicide" he has seen in the Snellville city limits in 12 years.

"We've had several murder-suicides through the years, but I don't think we've ever had a who-done-it-type homicide," Colgan said.

According to Maureen Lee with the Snellville police records department, there has not been a reported homicide since 1995, which is as far back as the records go.
