Georgia is famous for its food, from peaches to pecans. Food-lovers on your list will be delighted with homegrown gifts.
Pearson Farm, located in Fort Valley, Ga., fills its $30 New Georgia Sampler Gift Basket with native Georgia favorites. The basket includes toasted and salted pecans, cinnamon pecans, peanut crickle, Vidalia onion dressing and peach preserves. To order, call 888-423-7374 or visit pearsonfarm.com.
If you'd like to narrow down the gift, Pearson Farm also offers three jars of its popular Georgia Style Peach Salsa for $22. Made with Georgia peaches, this spicy salsa is great with tortilla chips. The Pearsons also recommend using it as a basting sauce or mixing it with sour cream or cream cheese.
For a different way to enjoy peaches, check out Georgia Peach Green Tea from California-based Paper Street Teas. The loose green tea leaves are blended with Georgia peaches, red safflowers and natural peach flavorings. You can find the tea online at www.psteas.com. The cost is $9.50 for a 4-ounce tin and $16 for an 8-ounce tin. The great site offers a flat shipping fee of $4.95 for all items.
Nuts about pecans
Southwest Georgia's Merritt Pecan Company offers a wide selection of sweet pecan treats that can be purchased via the Web at www.merritt-pecan.com.
Merritt's 1-pound Gift Pack Pecan Candy Assortment, $20.99, comes with chocolate, white chocolate, praline and honey roasted pecans.
The company also sells 8-ounce packages of Pecan Brittle, Pecan Fiddlesticks and Pecan Pralines for $12.99 apiece.
Hot and tasty
OK, so Krispy Kreme was founded in North Carolina, not Georgia, but the doughnut shops are so common in the Peach State that it might as well have been.
Krispy Kreme Christmas ornaments are a great stocking stuffer for every Georgian with a thing for Original Glazed. The red, blinking ornaments pay homage to the neon "Hot Doughnuts Now" signs that can cause hungry drivers to make U-turns.
The holiday ornaments cost $2.99, or $1 with every dozen doughnuts purchased through Christmas Day. In Gwinnett, the ornaments are available at the following Krispy Kreme locations: 3387 Buford Drive in Buford, 1550 Pleasant Hill Road in Duluth and 4129 U.S. Highway 78 in Lilburn. Visit www.krispykreme.com for more information.
