The Cobb-Gwinnett Challenge has been challenging at times for Gwinnett, but the county remains perfect in the annual gathering of swimming and diving teams from each county.
Today marks the sixth year of the meet, and Gwinnett has won the first five over Cobb. It gives Duluth coach Jim Reason, one of the organizers, bragging rights on his brother David, coach of Cobb's Kennesaw Mountain and also an organizer of the competition.
"Hopefully we can keep it going," Jim Reason said.
Teams from the two counties are divided into seven different divisions, with competitions taking place at Mountain Park and Collins Hill in Gwinnett as well as the Cobb Aquatic Center. Division V was held Friday night featuring Grayson and Shiloh vs. Wheeler and North Cobb, but the other six divisions are scheduled for today.
Division I pits Parkview and Collins Hill vs. Lassiter and Walton today at 8 a.m. at Mountain Park and Division II is Brookwood and North Gwinnett vs. Pope and Harrison today at 11:30 a.m. at the Cobb Aquatic Center. Mountain Park hosts Division III today at 6:30 p.m. as Norcross and Mill Creek face Kennesaw Mountain and Sprayberry.
In Division IV, Duluth and Peachtree Ridge are at Cobb to take on McEachern and Kell today at 6:30 p.m. It will follow the 3 p.m. Division VI meet between Dacula, Central Gwinnett, Marietta and
The Division VII competition is today at 8 a.m. at Collins Hill, with Berkmar, Meadowcreek and South Gwinnett going against Osborne, South Cobb, Walker and Hillsboro.
