DULUTH - Police are investigating a motor vehicle accident that killed a 24-year-old man Sunday.
Duluth resident Yimin Zhang was driving west in a 2006 Mitsubishi Lancer on Old Norcross Road near Sugar Mill Drive when the car struck a 1998 Chevrolet GMT-400 pickup truck pulling a boat trailer, said Cpl. Darren Moloney, spokesman for the Gwinnett County Police Department.
"The Mitsubishi failed to maintain its lane while negotiating the curve, which resulted in a glancing blow with the boat trailer," Moloney wrote in a news release.
The Mitsubishi ran off the roadway and hit a tree, Moloney said.
Zhang was pronounced dead at the scene.
A passenger in the car, 21-year-old Jong Chen of Duluth, was taken to Gwinnett Medical Center, Moloney said. Chen is expected to survive his injuries.
The driver of the pickup truck, 63-year-old James F. Walker of Duluth, was not injured, Moloney said.
The Mitsubishi is listed at-fault for failure to maintain the lane, Moloney said. There is no indication that drugs or alcohol were involved in the incident, but speed is cited as a contributing factor, Moloney said.
