Dacula approves budget

DACULA - By unanimous vote Thursday night, Dacula council members approved the proposed 2007 budget of $2,792,155. Residents can review the budget in City Hall.

City to apply for CDBG grant

Mayor Jimmy Wilbanks got the go-ahead from council members to apply for a Community Development Block Grant for planned improvements to McMillan Road. Officials plan to widen the road and improve drainage.

"We plan to start these improvements next year," Wilbanks said.

City Administrator Jim Osborn anticipates about $50,000 in CDBG funds, with the balance of the estimated $435,000 to come from 2005 Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax funds.

Council members also approved $31,000 in survey and design fees to engineering firm MacFarland-Dyer Associates for the McMillan Road project.

Zoning variance granted

Property owner Ellis Lamme petitioned the city council Thursday for a zoning variance to allow a slight decrease in lot size for two parcels in a proposed development on Tanner Road. Dacula requires a minimum lot size of 30,000 square feet for residential lots with septic tanks, and the developer asked to decrease the two lots to 29,500 square feet.

State water buffers within the development necessitate the decrease. Georgia's Health Department requires a minimum lot size of 28,500 for the same type lot within a residential development. Lamme was granted the variance by unanimous council vote.
