Youth roundup: Lions win championship

The 10-and-under Peachtree Ridge All-Star football team won the Forsyth County Sportsmanship bowl on Nov. 29.

The Lions were 4-0 for the weekend, outscoring their opponents 66-0.

Team members are: Myron Burton, Trey Byrd, Jaylynd Burnett, Chris Carleton, Kendall Cobb, Connor Gildemeyer, Greg Hentz, Abel Leonardo, Markael Maxwell, Taylor Mitchell, Steve Meyer, Chip Ness, Robert Peterson, Brock Stephens, Kielan Whitner, Craig Williams and Tyler Whiley.

The team is coached by Marty Gildemeyer, Abel Leonardo, Jeff Mitchell, Richard Ness, Bob Paterson, Mike Sachais and Craig Stephens.


Vipers win Cup

The Dacula Soccer Club's 12-and-under boys soccer team, the Vipers, recently completed an outstanding season.

The Vipers won 15 of the 16 games they played, winning the Kohl's American Cup and placing second at the Lanier Recreation Cup.

Team members are: Brian Barr, Conner Buckley, Omar Campos, Francisco Carrasco, Sebastian Carrion, Blake Devlin, Joseph Fukaras, Anthony Kerr, Liam Miner, Sean Murphy, Thomas Murphy, Erick Nunez and John Troutman. The team is coached by Jimmy Carrion.

AFU Elite '95 wins

Disney Tournament

The Atlanta Fire United '95 Elite girls won the prestigious Disney Soccer Showcase Tournament over the Thanksgiving weekend.

AFU Elite defeated Space Coast Storm and the Tampa Knights and lost to the Charlotte Breakers in pool play, earning the wild card to advance to the semifinals.

AFU Elite beat the Burlington Lady Cardinals in the semis to set up a rematch with Charlotte in the finals. AFU Elite defeated Charlotte 1-0 to win the championship.

Team members are: Amanda Bruemmer, Taylor Donohue, Kelsey Fervier, Rachel Garcia, Caycee Hamilton, Lindsay Hooper, Paige Hoover, Alex Lee, Austin McCausland, Kayla Puzas, Shannon Rainey, Anne Schmidt and Elizabeth White. The team is coached by Troy Garner.

AFU has 14 girls named

to Georgia ODP teams

The Atlanta Fire United Soccer Association had 14 girls named to the 1990, 1992, 1993 and 1994 Olympic Development teams for the state of Georgia.

Kristen Brooks, Lindsey Cox, Katya Gokhman and Missy Meyer were named to the 1990 team. McCall Gardner and Lindsey Kempf were named to the 1992 team, Lindsey Leonardo and Tess Patton to the 1993 team and Taylor Donohue, Rachel Garcia, Lauren Harriman, MacKenzie Loula, Austin McCausland and Tamaya Tompoe were named to the 1994 team.


Collins Hill wins

county title

The Collins Hill youth wrestling program won the Gwinnett County Youth Championship tournament last Friday.

It was the fourth year in a row that the Eagles have won the tournament. The Eagles had 47 of 59 wrestlers win a medal.

The middle-school aged youngsters wrestled in the Union Grove Invitational last Saturday and finished second out of 32 teams.

Ness places first

at Tulsa Nationals

Chip Ness of Duluth placed first at the Tulsa Nationals Kickoff Wrestling Tournament.

Ness defeated Chase Reis from Nebraska 4-2 to win the 10-and-under 90-pound division.
